Andrade

WWE & AEW News: More On Andrade Situation, Non-Compete Clause & Where He Could Wrestle

As previously reported, WWE released Andrade last month, and he made his AEW debut on the October 1st episode of Dynamite. Andrade has reportedly signed with AEW, but he has not appeared on television since his debut. The most recent update indicates that WWE is enforcing a one-year non-compete clause against him because they terminated his contract with just cause.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, based on the wording of a standard WWE contract under TKO, Andrade will be prohibited from working in pro wrestling, sports entertainment, or MMA groups owned or affiliated with TKO in the U.S. for one year following his termination date. This means he may still be able to take bookings outside of the U.S. It was also reported that Andrade competed for Crash Lucha Libre on October 3rd in Tijuana, Mexico, where he won the promotion’s Heavyweight Championship from DMT Azul. However, he is no longer advertised for an upcoming Mucha Lucha show in Atlanta. As it stands, WWC in Puerto Rico is still promoting him for a Universal Championship match on Saturday.

Additionally, the report states that AEW has removed all mentions of Andrade and his attack on Kenny Omega, instructing announcers not to reference his name or the storyline. For context, WWE enforced a similar clause against Alberto El Patron when he was fired for slapping Cody Barbierri. El Patron later sued WWE and reached an agreement allowing him to return once the controversy subsided, after which he could work wherever he wanted.
