Backstage WWE News On Lack Of Long-Term Creative Planning For Women’s US Title

According to Sean Ross Sapp in the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers, WWE has never had long-term creative plans for the Women’s United States Championship and has generally given little attention to it.

Sapp noted that the title was created hastily because the newly crowned Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green and Michin were in the midst of a heated feud without a championship on the line.

Sapp also mentioned that since there were no existing title programs for the two competitors, the company decided to introduce the Women’s United States Championship to parallel the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, which reigning champion Becky Lynch had advocated for.

At that time, there were no significant creative plans for the Women’s United States Championship, nor any expectation of dedicating meaningful time to its storyline.

Green became the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion and held the title for 131 days before losing it to Zelina Vega, who then lost it to Giulia after 62 days. Giulia’s reign lasted 162 days until she lost the title back to Green this past Friday night on SmackDown.

In comparison, the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship has been central to various storylines, including Becky Lynch’s feuds with Lyra Valkyria, WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella, and Bayley.
