According to a report from last month, WWE is enforcing a non-compete clause on Andrade that could prevent him from competing for up to a year. This situation arises after the former WWE star made his return to AEW following his release from WWE in September, which was reportedly due to a wellness violation.
Sean Ross Sapp reported on the latest episode of Fightful Select Answers that there hasn’t been much progress regarding the situation. He mentioned that people are “looking into” the matter, although it was not specified who exactly is investigating and in what capacity.
There is a general consensus that the one-year non-compete clause is unlikely to be upheld, particularly if it is unpaid, as this could significantly hinder Andrade’s ability to work in his field and support himself. However, if the non-compete period is paid, the circumstances would change. Still, most reports indicate that Andrade is not receiving payment during this time.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has also reported claims that Andrade’s non-compete clause is worldwide, not just limited to the United States.
Aside from a single appearance for The Crash, he has not wrestled for other promotions. Both Fightful and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter believe that the non-compete clause would likely hold up in court if it were challenged.
