Matt Riddle

Various: Matt Riddle’s Return, Jay White Not Expected in WWE, Smackdown Audience Strong, more

  • Matt Riddle was brought in for Monday’s WWE Raw but not over WrestleMania weekend in order to disguise his return and make it as much of a surprise as possible. The feeling was that if he was present during WrestleMania and seen hanging around, his return would have been telegraphed.
  • PWInsider.com is reporting that were absolutely “no discussion” of former NJPW star Jay White being brought into WWE over WrestleMania 39 weekend despite rumors to the contrary. The report goes on to state that it does not appear as if White is WWE-bound.
  • Tony Khan is once again hyping a major announcement to be revealed on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite. The belief is that his announcement is not related to either a talent or storyline message.
  • Friday’s final viewership ratings and figures saw Smackdown soar to an audience of 2.484 million, the third largest viewership for the show in 2023. Even more impressive, Smackdown’s 18-49 rating was 0.69 – the highest it’s been since December 2020 which was a show that was benefited from an NFL game lead-in.
  • AEW Rampage audience headed in the opposite direction unfortunately, with the show drawing 340,000 viewers and a 0.10 rating. The viewership is the lowest in the history of the show for an episode that aired in its normal 10 ET timeslot.
