Additional Notes For Tonight’s SmackDown Live, 205 Live Preview, Drew Gulak

As noted, WWE returns to Portland, Oregon this evening for the post-WWE Stomping Grounds edition of WWE SmackDown Live on the USA Network. The post-show dark match main events advertised on the official website for the Moda Center, the site of tonight’s blue brand show, include Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Championship and Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre in rematches from this past Sunday night’s PPV.

WWE.com released the following preview for tonight’s post-WWE Stomping Grounds episode of 205 Live, marking the first show since Drew Gulak defeated Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa to become the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion:

At WWE Stomping Grounds, Drew Gulak defeated his rivals Akira Tozawa and Tony Nese in a Triple Threat Match to capture the WWE Cruiserweight Championship from The Premier Athlete. What does Gulak have in store for his first WWE 205 Live as champion?

Time for a better WWE 205 Live?

Two nights ago at WWE Stomping Grounds, Drew Gulak overcame the odds and became the purple brand’s new titleholder by defeating Akira Tozawa and WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese in a Triple Threat Match, an edge-of-your-seat thriller that brought the WWE Universe to a fever pitch and had them chanting “2-0-5!” at the top of their lungs.

Since returning to action with a more serious demeanor, The Philadelphia Stretcher has been nearly unstoppable, decimating Noam Dar before defeating Tozawa in singles competition earlier this month. He and The Stamina Monster were each declared victorious when they pinned each other in a Fatal 4-Way Match to determine who would face Nese, and Gulak finally reached the pinnacle of the Cruiserweight division with his win in the Triple Threat Match.

However, Gulak has ditched the PowerPoint presentations and campaign slogans, letting his actions speak for him. While winning the title brings with it challenges from every direction, any Superstar who sets foot in the ring opposite Gulak is well-aware he is the most dangerous competitor in the Cruiserweight division.

Will Gentleman Jack Gallagher get his match with Mike Kanellis?

Last week, Gentleman Jack Gallagher was reacting to his recent loss against Chad Gable when he was interrupted by Maria and Mike Kanellis. WWE 205 Live’s power couple taunted Gallagher, but the British Superstar remained calm and challenged Kanellis to a match. Despite The Opportunist’s accepting, there was no General Manager present to make the match official.

Earlier that evening, Drake Maverick won the 24/7 Championship from R-Truth and sped away from the arena. Just days later, Maverick lost the coveted title at his own wedding when R-Truth surprised him and pinned him after the nuptials. On Raw, Maverick was unsuccessful in reclaiming the title and has been left completely devastated.

Despite Maverick’s best efforts to manage his duties, his focus on the 24/7 Championship has occasionally left the Cruiserweight division in limbo, a fact that Maria and Mike Kanellis are more than willing to point out. Will Maverick get back to business and give Gallagher and Kanellis a match, or is regaining the 24/7 Title still his priority?
