All Elite Wrestling appears to be planning for a major dream match in the coming months with a fightfulselect.com report indicating that the wheels are already in motion for it to happen.
At AEW Revolution earlier this year, Billie Starkz was shown watching the match between Mercedes Mone and Momo Watanabe. Starkz has worked with and been mentored by reigning ROH World Women’s Champion Athena over the last couple of years and things escalated last night on AEW Dynamite when Mone faced and beat Starkz and then took the fallout to social media suggesting that Starkz’s mentor (Athena) didn’t train her properly for the match.
The Fightful report adds that these interactions were done with a purpose as AEW is tentatively planning for Athena vs. Mone with some internally believing it could happen as early as AEW Dynasty which is just a few weeks away, taking place on April 6. The two women have held their respective titles for a long time with Mone approaching ten months as TBS Champ and Athena over two years as the ROH Champ. Dating back to their WWE days as Sasha Banks and Ember Moon, the two have also worked together multiple times in multi-person matches both as opponents and partners but have never wrestled in a one-on-one match before, the closest being a triple threat match that Athena won in 2018.
