AEW Dynamite Beats WWE NXT In Wednesday Night Wars Ratings (7/22/2020)

AEW Dynamite Beats WWE NXT In This Week’s Wednesday Night Wars Ratings & Viewership Battle (7/22/2020)

All Elite Wrestling once again emerged victorious over WWE NXT in the latest chapter of the ongoing “Wednesday Night Wars” weekly ratings battles.

The Wednesday, July 22, 2020 episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT finished with a total average of 845,000 viewers on the overnight charts, marking an increase of 57,000 viewers compared to last week’s AEW Fight For The Fallen 2020 special themed-event.

With those numbers, AEW once again bested NXT, which drew 615,000 viewers on average across their two-hour time slot on the USA Network. The number marked a pretty significant decrease for WWE’s black-and-gold brand compared to the week before.

In terms of the coveted key demographics, such as the 18-to-49-year-old fans, AEW Dynamite scored a 0.32 rating — up by 0.3 compared to last week’s demo figures for the AEW Fight For The Fallen themed special event.

For their part, the WWE NXT brand also enjoyed an increase in numbers for their important 18-49 year old audience on Wednesday night.

The 7/22 episode of NXT On USA finished with a 0.17 rating in the key demo category, marking an 0.3 increase in those numbers of their own compared to last week’s 0.14 final draw.

Overall AEW Dynamite finished number five in the Top 150 Cable programs of the evening for Wednesday, July 22nd, while NXT On USA ranked 35th. AEW won every demographic except the 50+ category in the head-to-head comparisons against WWE NXT.

The key demographics have been a focal point made by AEW supporters, such as company president Tony Khan and former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, both of whom took to social media to point out to fans that the AEW FYTER FEST two-week extravaganza may not have out-drawn the two-week NXT Great American Bash specials in terms of overall viewership, but they did handily beat NXT On USA in the key demos.

As they mentioned in their respective arguments/debates with fans, the key demos are what advertisers base their commercial rates on and thus, from a business perspective, a head-to-head key demo victory is as significant big-picture wise as anything else you can determine from analyzing the ratings every week.
