Coronavirus (COVID_19) Outbreak Forces AEW Dynamite From Rochester

AEW Dynamite Scrapped From Rochester, N.Y., Will Instead Take Place In Jacksonville, FL. On March 18

The Coronavirus Outbreak is badly affecting the pro wrestling world as well, as WWE has confirmed that this week’s Friday Night SmackDown has been moved from Detroit, MI. to an empty WWE PC in Orlando, FL., and now it has been confirmed that next week’s AEW Dynamite show scheduled to take place in Rochester, New York, has also been scrapped.

With the State of New York forbidding any events of greater than 500 people, next week’s AEW Dynamite show in Rochester, N.Y., which is scheduled to feature among other segments and matches, the revealing of who the mystery “Exalted One” of The Dark Order is, has been officially cancelled.

According to some reports, Ticketmaster has information indicating that the event in Rochester will be rescheduled to July but it’s unclear what AEW will do for next week’s show.

The show scheduled for 3/25 — a special titled “Blood and Guts” named/themed event is set to emanate from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. While the state of N.J. nor the city of Newark have banned any large events as of this writing, the Prudential Center has cancelled all events at the arena through March.

This means that the 3/25 AEW special can not, and now officially will not, take place there.

“The New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center are supportive of the NHL’s decision to suspend the season. Similarly, in consultation with our live event partners, promoters and artists, we have postponed all events at the Prudential Center through the end of March. The health and well-being of our fans, players, performers, artists, staff members, partners and communities are of the utmost importance, and we remain in close communication with public health, state and local officials during this challenging period.

“As we navigate the coming weeks, we recognize that our Devils and Prudential Center staff members are family and the heartbeat of the organization. As such, we are committed to assisting our arena associates through this period.

“In this time of need, we need to band together and take care of people,” Managing Partner Josh Harris stated, “Our teams, our cities and the leagues in which we operate are a family, and we are committed to looking out for one another.”

“The Devils also extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the many talented doctors, nurses, medical professionals and emergency services personnel who are working tirelessly to address this matter of public health.

“We will provide further updates as soon as possible.”

UPDATE: AEW has announced that next week’s Dynamite, which as noted was originally scheduled to emanate from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. until it was announced that it had been scrapped from the venue and the location for now, has a new home for their weekly AEW On TNT show.

The 3/18 episode of AEW Dynamite, which is advertised to feature the highly-anticipated unveiling of “The Exalted One” of AEW’s Dark Order faction, will now be taking place from the promotion’s home turf in Jacksonville, Florida.
