All Elite Wrestling president and co-founder Tony Khan was a guest on the Steve Austin Show to talk about the rise of AEW, and what’s in store for the future of the promotion. Khan revealed during his interview that a tag team tournament will commence once AEW begins its weekly television series on TNT this coming fall, and promises that some of the best tag teams in wrestling will be competing.
“We’re going to establish a great tag team division,” Khan promised. “When we launch our weekly television show in the fall, we’re going to be doing a tag team tournament that’s going to have some of the greatest tag team matches ever on TV.”
The AEW President continued, claiming the tag-team tournament is going to be the focus of their initial weekly TV shows on TNT.
“It’s going to be a main focus of our TV,” Khan told Austin. “There will be teams competing to get a first-round bye in that tournament, which is a big deal.”
On the subject, Khan concluded, “We’ll have some of the best tag teams in wrestling competing for our Tag Team Championships coming up in the fall.”
Khan, along with the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes have all stressed in the past the importance of tag team wrestling since the launch of AEW. Their Jacksonville event, Fight for the Fallen, will feature a high-stakes tag bout between Dustin and Cody Rhodes versus the Bucks.
