Anthony Ogogo Explains Why He Chose AEW Over WWE

Ahead of his pay-per-view debut at last night’s AEW Double or Nothing event, Anthony Ogogo spoke to Wrestling Inc..During the discussion, Ogogo reflected on his boxing career, and recalled some of his memorable moments, as well as sponsorship deals.

“I was the first boxer in the world to ever be signed to a long-term deal with Nike,” said Ogogo. “That’s how notorious I was in the UK, in the world. I was signed to Subway for five years. I had some proper top, top brands sponsoring me.”

According to Anthony himself, his rise to the top failed to fulfill his desires so much, to the point that he decided to go a whole new route. Ogogo hung up his boxing gloves, and decided to become “All Elite”.

“What did I get out of my boxing career? I’m blind in my left eye,” said Ogogo. “I didn’t achieve the things I wanted to achieve. I’m getting a bonus career, I didn’t think I was ever going to be a wrestler. I thought I was going to be a boxer. This is a bonus for me.”

Last but not least, Anthony explained why, he chose AEW over WWE, even though WWE offered him more cash. Ogogo praised the way AEW takes care of the members of their roster, which he says was the deciding factor.

“[WWE] offered me more money than AEW,” said Ogogo. “I didn’t join them because I believe in Tony Khan’s vision. I believe in Cody Rhodes vision. I believe in AEW’s vision. I love being a part of AEW. I love how the team give a f— about their wrestlers. They care about the people rather than the money… The other place, they seem to care about money first and people if at all. We care about the people first because they know that a happy workplace creates good stuff. So I’m very proud to be in AEW.”
