Last night’s AEW Summer Blockbuster special featured the unveiling of the AEW Unified Championship. This took place during a segment where Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and International Champion Kenny Omega officially signed their contract for the upcoming Winner Takes All Match at All In: Texas.
According to Fightful Select, there has been a tentative plan for this match for nearly a year. The report indicates that the plan became concrete in December, just before Omega returned to NJPW. It is suggested that the new title will be treated as a top championship, rather than being categorized as mid or upper-midcard level. The announcement of the match has been credited with helping All In: Texas sell over 1,400 tickets in the past week.
Additionally, the report confirms that the AEW Continental Classic will continue, even though the Continental Championship has been unified into the new title.
