Backstage News on AEW Wrestlers Approached By WWE & Asking For Their Releases

— AEW wrestlers reportedly being contacted by WWE and subsequently asking for their release has been somewhat of a hot topic over the last few weeks and fightfulselect.com has an update on the situation. According to their report, Swerve Strickland has now been confirmed as the talent who referred WWE to his attorney after having been contacted. Strickland had “no interest” in returning to WWE but was apparently contacted as part of a pitch to reform Hit Row.

— Another rumor that was making the rounds was that Bobby Fish, who is no longer in AEW, had asked Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly to leave AEW and join him in going back to WWE. However, this report was denied by AEW sources while WWE sources have stated there have not been any talks with Fish. Another rumor that has been shot down is that WWE had approached Keith Lee about possibly trying to come back to the promotion.

— As for wrestlers who reportedly asked for their release, Miro’s name was mentioned but the fightful report notes that while it’s unclear whether he’s been contacted by WWE or not, he hasn’t spoken to AEW officials about getting out of his contract. Malakai Black’s name is another that has been linked to a release request and his recent statement about taking time off did nothing to quell rumors that it was granted. However, an AEW source noted that they expect Black in AEW sooner or later as they didn’t believe AEW would give him any sort of release knowing he’d probably be going back to WWE.
