– In one of the bigger developments from last night’s WWE SummerSlam PPV, Bayley made her return to TV after an absence of over a year while recovering from ACL surgery and she was joined by the returning Dakota Kai as well as NXT’s Io Shirai, who has been renamed Iyo Skye.
– Bayley for one was strongly rumored and expected to be returning to WWE at SummerSlam, as she has been cleared to resume wrestling for a while and had been training at the WWE Performance Center for several weeks. In a twist, Kai was brought back to the company after being given her release back in April and it came as no surprise to people within WWE as she was someone many knew Triple H would make a priority to bring back, according to fightfulselect.com. The report adds that Kai drew interest from other promotions but discussions with AEW never materialized beyond an introduction. Meanwhile, Shirai’s contract was set to expire in the very near future and there were rumors that she was going to be headed back to Japan after WWE came up with no creative plans for her after she returned from injury. It remains unclear if Shirai’s elevation to the main roster as part of this group signals that she has re-signed a new deal, though WWE sources believe it probably means she has.
– The fightfulselect.com report also noted that this new stable of the three women wrestlers is a clear product of the new WWE regime following Vince McMahon’s departure. It, and other variations of the group, were actually pitched a while back to Vince but he nixed all those ideas and then Dakota Kai was eventually released.
