Mustafa Ali

Backstage News on Mustafa Ali’s WWE Release & Possibility Of Him Going to AEW

  • Mustafa Ali’s unexpected release by WWE last week came as a surprise, especially since the company had already announced his scheduled match against Dominik Mysterio for the North American title at NXT No Mercy this weekend. It had been previously reported that Ali had requested his release in early 2022 due to creative differences, which may have even led to a confrontation with Vince McMahon.
  • According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ali, known for his impressive in-ring abilities and strong microphone skills, is likely to garner significant interest from AEW, especially because Bryan Danielson holds him in high regard. Danielson wields considerable influence within AEW, and it’s worth noting that he had pitched the idea of working a PPV event with Ali back in 2019 when they were both with WWE.
  • The report also suggests that WWE’s decision to release Ali likely stemmed from the perception that they had no immediate plans to utilize him on the main roster, even though his contract entitled him to “main roster money.” Interestingly, WWE did not wait for his ongoing storyline with Dominik Mysterio to conclude on TV, nor did they give him a week or two to write him out of storylines.
