Backstage News on Opening Segment On This Week’s WWE Raw Being Changed

— Monday’s WWE Raw saw the opening segment changed and fightfulselect.com has details on the modifications that were made. According to the report, the returning Tommaso Ciampa was actually booked to answer Seth Rollins’ open challenge before that idea was scrapped and he was instead put into a match against The Miz. The originally proposed match against Rollins was expected to get “a ton of time” but plans were changed multiple times over the weekend and then one final time a few hours before the show went on air. On internal sheets, Rollins’ match had his opponent listed as “TBA” before the changes.

— The report adds that the move was made by Vince McMahon and wasn’t that well received by the participants in the match as they were hoping to go through with the way it was initially laid out and one source even stated that the people involved were frustrated. While some may assume that the match was scrapped because WWE wouldn’t want Ciampa to lose in his first match back, fightful noted that there was a creative non-finish planned that would have prevented a Ciampa loss.
