Swerve Strickland Signs New AEW Contract

Backstage News On When Former AEW World Champion Might Return From Injury

As previously reported, former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland is currently recovering from meniscus surgery, which he underwent in late August.

According to Fightful Select, AEW sources indicated last weekend that they hope Strickland will be ready to return to in-ring action sometime in the winter. December has been mentioned as a possible timeframe for his return. However, it’s important to note that this is not guaranteed, and any setbacks or complications could change these plans.

Strickland last competed for AEW at the AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door event in 2025, where he lost an AEW Unified Championship match to Kazuchika Okada. AEW wrote Strickland off television after an attack by Okada in August, allowing him to undergo surgery. He had been dealing with this injury since 2019 during his time in WWE, initially resting for a month before making his return.
