Backstage News On Why Andrade Was Able To Appear In AEW Immediately After WWE Release

Former WWE star Andrade El Idolo made a surprising return to AEW during the 6th Anniversary episode of Dynamite this past Wednesday night, where he attacked Kenny Omega after the opening match. Following this attack, El Idolo officially joined the Don Callis Family.

According to PWInsider.com, it is typical for a talent released from WWE to have a 90-day non-compete clause. However, since news of Andrade’s release from WWE broke in mid-September, this would mean the clause would have expired sometime in December. The report clarified that Andrade had no non-compete clause in his contract.

Andrade was released due to multiple violations of the WWE Wellness Policy over the past year. WWE decided to terminate his contract entirely, without a non-compete clause, allowing him to be a free agent immediately upon his release. This decision means WWE opted not to pay him for another three months to prevent him from joining another promotion. Furthermore, it appears that WWE is no longer publicly announcing when main roster talents violate the Wellness Policy, a practice that has been phased out in the past few years.
