Multiple sources note that this past Monday’s episode of Raw into significant timing issues, so much that the main segment to close out of the show ended up not turning out the way originally envisioned.
Drew McIntyre was scripted to cut a promo after his match which would have led into Goldberg’s arrival, however the promo was scrapped and Goldberg came out and didn’t improvise, delivering his lines as they were scripted.
This is why his comment about McIntyre not respecting legends felt out of place as it was supposed to be a response to McIntyre’s dialogue in the promo that was canned.
The original planned main event for Monday’s WWE Raw was Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton, however this was changed to Drew McIntyre vs. Keith Lee to go with the Goldberg angle to end the show.
The change was a last minute edit, which likely contributed to the timing issues that plagued Raw.
Goldberg for his part, was well hidden backstage and there weren’t a lot of people who knew he was there.
Another idea that was changed was to open Raw with Hulk Hogan in the ring cutting a promo. The final version saw it changed to a backstage type segment with a Hogan voice over.
