— Ever since his brother’s (Penta) contract with AEW expired earlier this month, Rey Fenix has ignited drama between himself and AEW with a series of now deleted tweets where he accused the promotion of “inhumane treatment” and ignoring his need for a doctor for months.
— Fightfulselect.com reported that AEW reps have noted that they were not going to comment on the situation and that the company actually couldn’t comment on medical claims even if they wanted to. Officials in AEW were said to be blindsided by Fenix’s tweets despite the fact that the two sides have been plagued by communication issues and are not sitting on good terms. While not getting into specifics, one AEW source only heard about a situation where Fenix took issue with a doctor who wasn’t ready to clear him. Nobody who opined on the topic felt that AEW had done or not done anything that would be construed as “inhumane.”
— As of this week, Fenix’s status with AEW is completely unclear as he has time remaining on his contract that will take him well into 2025 and thus prevent him from signing with WWE as was rumored over the summer. The fightful report added that some within AEW believed that it was a possibility that President Tony Khan may end up granting Felix an early release but nothing has been said on that front as internally, it could send a bad precedent for the company.
