Apparently a lot of those behind-the-scenes in WWE feel that the move to promote Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff to RAW and SmackDown LIVE Executive Directors was simply done to give Vince McMahon something to point to as a significant change when discussing WWE business at the latest quarterly report.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that a lot of people backstage feel that the hirings of Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman into Executive Director roles was timed so that the company would have something to show stockholders, specifically that they were making changes to offset popularity declines.
The general consensus is that Wall Street responded well to the changes as a lot of analysts feel as if Vince McMahon is a “genius” who dominates wrestling and no one else is his equal. The feeling is also that with Heyman and Bischoff now onboard and working in the trenches and doing the “grunt work”, it will free up McMahon to concentrate on long-term strategic and creative planning that will ultimately increase non-TV revenue streams.
