Backstage Tension in AEW Causing Many Talent to Approach Their “Breaking Point”

— In the recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer spoke of the ongoing backstage drama within AEW that he terms is about to reaching a breaking point if it’s not addressed and sorted out. He wrote that the drama involves “many of the top guys” and that it’s gotten worse and worse in recent weeks.

— The initial issues seem to have began when Colt Cabana was dropped from Dark Order with no explanation or angle and was not only going to not be brought back on TV, but he was going to be released. However, AEW head Tony Khan instead decided to sign Cabana to Ring of Honor. Things got worse earlier this week, when CM Punk’s on-air promo went off the rails and he called out Hangman Adam Page for being a coward instead of focusing his material on Jon Moxley.

— Meltzer noted that while the Cabana reference by Page is what set Punk off, there is an “air of inevitability” of problems within AEW and that even if the Punk/Page incident didn’t happen, something else was going to given all the different personalities that are involved. He even went so far as to say that “a number of people are close to their breaking point if things don’t get settled.”
