Backstage Update On AEW Changing Original Plans For Weekly TV Show On TNT

AEW and TNT are still finalizing the details of their new upcoming weekly television show that will premiere on the basic cable network in the fall.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio at F4WOnline.com, it is 100-percent confirmed now that the AEW On TNT show will be air every Tuesday or Wednesday night in prime time.

Apparently the original plan was to debut the AEW on TNT weekly TV show in the day and time that WWE SmackDown Live would be vacating when they leave the USA Network on Tuesday night’s for their new home on FOX every Friday night starting on October 18th.

The initial decision was so definitive it was said to be internally considered a “lock” at one point.

However, as is always the case in the world of professional wrestling — things are subject to change.

And that’s exactly what seems to be happening, as current plans within the network and the promotion now call for the weekly AEW on TNT TV show to air every Wednesday night in prime time.

Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the new internal working plan for the show to air on Wednesday night’s is large in part to avoid a significant amount of instances of the show being preempted due to other professional sporting events, such as the NBA on TNT.

For those who missed it, AEW President Tony Khan also shed a ton of light on some of the plans behind-the-scenes in All Elite Wrestling for their weekly TV show on TNT during his appearance this week on the return edition of WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s podcast — “The Steve Austin Show.”

During his interview on the show, the AEW President and CEO spoke at length about the specific plans the promotion has to focus their first several episodes of AEW on TNT around.
