FOX/FS1 pretty much cancelled WWE Backstage yesterday, though depending on which report you want to believe, there’s a possibility that the show could still air around some of the bigger events.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the cancellation had nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic but rather it occurred due to budgetary reasons as the costs to run the program did not make sense considering the low ratings the show was delivering. FOX executives simply felt it cost too much to produce the shows.
Meltzer added that even though people are claiming that the show isn’t completely dead and could be revived for the PPVs, he has heard differently that it is cancelled completely and even many of the producers who worked on Backstage have been cut, which would seem to signal that the show has been shelved.
