The All Elite Wrestling status of pro boxing legend Mike Tyson has been a mystery since he has disappeared from the scene on the weekly AEW on TNT television program — until now.
Tyson appeared at the AEW Double or Nothing 2020 pay per view back in May to present the TNT Championship to the eventual tournament winner “The American Nightmare” Cody, leading to a brief rivalry with the “Demo God” Chris Jericho that extended into a segment on AEW Dynamite.
However, the story line between Jericho and Tyson drifted away as “Le Champion” turned his attention to “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio at F4WOnline.com, a reason that the feud seems to have halted was due to Tyson’s scheduled boxing bout against Roy Jones Jr.
The Tyson-Jones Jr. fight was initially scheduled for September 12, 2020, one week after the AEW ALL OUT 2020 pay per view which goes down tonight, September 5, 2020, where it was originally rumored that the Tyson and Jericho rivalry would culminate with a PPV showdown between the two on the 9/5 AEW show.
Additionally, the report notes that Tyson most likely did not want to appear on two PPVs in consecutive weeks because it would diminish his brand, and because the AEW match against Jericho could have resulted in injury or something else that could have potentially resulted in the high-dollar mega-boxing event being postponed or cancelled.
Apparently the change in plans for Tyson in AEW was another reason Jericho decided to extend his feud with Orange Cassidy, which is set to culminate in the first-ever Mimosa Mayhem Match at AEW ALL OUT 2020 on pay-per-view later this evening.
As far as “Iron” Mike Tyson is concerned, his boxing exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. is now scheduled to take place in November. Whether or not Tyson will still resurface in All Elite Wrestling after the Jones Jr. fight remains to be seen.
We will keep you posted here at eWrestling.com as updates continue to surface regarding the AEW status of Mike Tyson.
