HBK vs. Undertaker Update

Backstage Update On Shawn Michaels Returning To Wrestle The Undertaker

On the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer suggested that WWE is building up towards a Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker match. He added that WWE doesn’t like to “go hard” on anything that they can’t deliver and the company has reportedly asked Michaels a lot lately to come out of “retirement” for a match at one of their big shows like the Greatest Royal Rumble and past WrestleManias.

It’s possible the company could be targeting the next Saudi Arabia show and Michaels is headed to Australia, where they could shoot an angle which would set up his match against Taker. One of the reasons this makes sense is because based on the first event, the Saudi officials seemed to want famous wrestlers from the past and Michaels would fit that mold perfectly.

Michaels has previously opted against returning to the ring, but with WWE falling into a ton of cash lately with both the Saudi deal and the upcoming TV agreements, they could offer him something like $2 million for one match, which is significantly more than anything Michaels would have made for a single match back when he was wrestling.

There’s also a chance WWE might want to save this match for a WrestleMania and while it seems awfully early to start setting up a program for a PPV months away, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
