The main event segment of Friday’s WWE Night of Champions go-home episode of SmackDown featured a promo battle between “The Best In The World” CM Punk and Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena. During the segment, Punk spoofed Cena’s “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona and delivered a diss track aimed at the 17-time World Champion in anticipation of their match at today’s Night of Champions Premium Live Event (PLE).
According to Fightful Select, there were edits made to the main event segment, which were noticeable when comparing the live international version to the taped version. It was reported that a source within WWE confirmed that a flubbed line from Punk was removed, and additional crowd noise was added to the U.S. broadcast.
One source from WWE production mentioned that the day was extremely busy due to the edits made to the main event and power issues that caused problems during the opening segment.
