— Drew McIntyre was all over the news following the men’s Royal Rumble, after having reported to have stormed out of the building due to a miscommunication regarding his elimination. As the story goes, McIntyre was supposed to get eliminated by Damian Priest before Logan Paul’s entrance and it would have served as a catalyst to jumpstart a feud between him and Priest leading into WrestleMania. However, due to timing issue, McIntyre ended up being eliminated after Paul entered the Rumble in a fairly typical manner.
— The former WWE Champion went backstage and immediately expressed frustration at how the elimination went down, referencing at the time an unnamed wrestler who had to “get his stuff in” at the expense of other storylines. This wrestler was later revealed to be LA Knight and WWE went public with this ahead of Friday’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match. This was referenced ahead of their Smackdown Elimination Chamber Qualifying match and the company ended up playing it up in a storyline with McIntyre admitting that he was upset and Knight cutting a promo calling Drew a crier. According to fightfulselect.com, Knight’s spiel doubled up as both being “heartfelt and serious” but also as a good natured shot at McIntyre.
— The report added McIntyre was fine with Knight’s promo and that the two wrestlers were also completely fine working their match and even though things appeared to get a little physical in the ring, Knight and McIntyre emerged from their match none the worst for wear. WWE officials were never worried that the wrestlers would have trouble working together and most people backstage saw it as an opportunity to capitalize on the behind-the-scenes story.
