The InVasion name for next week’s NXT vs. TNA special was initially announced during last Saturday’s NXT No Mercy event but was later changed to Showdown. This change was made due to concerns that the show’s date coincided with the second anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel. Additionally, an article that criticized WWE for the original name prompted the decision.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the article indicated the initial name was in very bad taste. However, he believes WWE did not choose this name intentionally and likely did not realize the potential implications. After enough people pointed out the connection, WWE decided to adopt a new name to avoid any further controversy.
The special episode will take place this Tuesday at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, during the usual NXT timeslot at 8 PM ET on the CW.
