— WWE Smackdown expanded to three hours last week and it will stay at that length for the next little while with WWE offering no real insight into what their plans are. WWE CCO Paul Levesque did his media rounds last week and spoke a little about the topic confirming that Smackdown will eventually revert to two hours without nailing down a date on when that might happen.
— Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer hypothesized that Smackdown moving to three hours was at the request of the USA Network who simply needed to fill in the one hour spot from 8-9PM ET before they launch a new show in the spring. The network’s idea is to debut this new program after Smackdown due to the wrestling show being a “fantastic lead-in” but for now, they didn’t have any ideas about what to put in there and perhaps paid WWE “a bit extra” for a couple of months. However, WWE never announced any extra revenue from the third hour so if there is anything extra coming in, it would not be substantial. Bryan Alvarez had also reported that Smackdown is expected to go back to two hours in the June 2025 timeframe.
