Backstage WWE News On Why NXT-TNA “Invasion” Event Was Renamed To “Showdown”

Both WWE and TNA have pulled all references of “Invasion” as it relates to next week’s special event on CW.

The WrestleVotes account reported yesterday that the previously referred to NXT vs. TNA “Invasion” themed event next week will now be known as “Showdown” and last night on NXT, it was confirmed as such.

The reason for the abrupt and last minute change is believed to be backlash from fans in Israel due to the date of the special (October 7) coinciding with the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks in the southern part of the country that triggered the current war in Gaza. There was also some backlash to the logo that WWE chose to promote the event which included a red letter V as it was said to resemble the downward facing red triangle used as a Hamas symbol.

The similarities are surely coincidental as WWE used the same name and logo way back in 2001 during the WWE vs. WCW invasion storyline.
