— WWE used social media yesterday to tease bringing in a special item for “one night only” at Saturday’s Night Main Event with Triple H presenting Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes with a case whose contents clearly pleased Rhodes. As many have speculated, it is believed to contain the WWE Winged Eagle title.
— Fightfulselect.com is reporting that there have been internal discussions to use the Winged Eagle title and Rhodes has been pushing for it, both privately and publicly by repeatedly stating that he wants to see the return of that belt. In fact, he first made mention of it when initially returning to 2022 and by this year made public comments that he was working on bringing it back.
— The report adds that while he has been the most vocal, Rhodes isn’t the only one as a “number of talent” have mentioned bringing back classic titles and the widespread feeling was a contributing factor in the WWE Tag Team titles having a more classic look to them. Meanwhile the World Title was also designed to pay homage to the “Big Gold Belt” that was used originally in NWA, then WCW and briefly in WWE before being retired. The Winged Eagle championship belt debuted in 1988 and was used for about a decade when a new title was introduced as the Attitude Era took off.
