Chris Jericho Discusses CM Punk’s Termination From AEW; Details Backstage Interaction

Chris Jericho discussed the recent departure of CM Punk from All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on his “Talk Is Jericho” podcast. The departure followed a backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry at ALL IN 2023, which took place at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Jericho acknowledged the controversy but didn’t dwell on it, stating, “CM Punk is no longer with AEW, and Wembley was his last match—a memorable way to exit.”

Jericho also shared a backstage interaction with Punk regarding a move in their match: “I briefly spoke to him about a potential frankensteiner off the top, as he sometimes does it. I asked if he planned to do it, but he wasn’t. In a joking manner, I told him I’d do the GTS, and for a moment, I think he believed me.”

Continuing, Jericho expressed his regret about the situation but respected Tony Khan’s decision. He noted, “CM Punk was a significant part of AEW during his time here. If you’re going to leave, having a big match with Samoa Joe in a sold-out stadium is a strong way to go out. Those are my thoughts on the matter.”
