Chris Jericho had a goal going into the first defense of his ROH World Championship reign.
And “The Ocho” appeared to accomplish that goal.
The leader of the Jericho Appreciation Society reflected on his recent critically-acclaimed showdown with former ROH World Champion Bandido during the latest episode of his “Talk Is Jericho” podcast.
While looking back on the showdown between himself and Bandido from the AEW Dynamite show from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from the September 28, 2022 episode of the weekly two-hour AEW on TBS program, the fire-ball throwing “Wizard” of pro wrestling recalled his goal of making the former champion look like a “main event star” in his debut performance in front of AEW fans.
Featured below are some of the highlights from the episode of the official podcast of the J.A.S. leader where he touches on this topic with his thoughts.
On being aware of Bandido’s popularity but not being overly familiar with his actual work: “I thought that was a pretty marquee, name-value match. But I had never seen any of his work. I knew that he was kind of hot on the scene and was a guy that had a kind of critical acclaim.”
On his goal going into the match being to make Bandido come off as well as possible in a losing effort: “I just wrote down some ideas. My goal was to put this guy over and get this kid a contract, as Booker T used to say, but more importantly to make him look like a main event star.”
