Chris Bey Signs With IMPACT Wrestling

Cody Expresses Interest In AEW Acquiring Chris Bey, IMPACT Wrestling Ends Up Signing Him Instead

AEW Executive VP Cody participated in a conference call on Tuesday where he spoke about independent wrestler Chris Bey as someone who was on his radar as a potential signing, but apparently he was beaten to the punch by IMPACT Wrestling.

During Tuesday’s media call with Cody, the AEW EVP spoke about his interest in signing Chris Bey to All Elite Wrestling.

“I’ve been doing a deep dive on YouTube on a guy named Chris Bey who’s a prime example of you know somebody who could potentially be good for our singles division,” Cody said. “We haven’t spoken to him or anything of that nature, but I’m sure this call will have some sort of — he’ll hear about it to some capacity.”

Before AEW could acquire the promising prospect, IMPACT Wrestling snatched up Bey, signing him to a contract and publicly announcing the news.

Bey is an accomplished indie wrestler, notably with Championship Wrestling in Hollywood as well as Futures Stars of Wrestling (FSW) in Las Vegas. He was also notably on the card for both of the live events in 2019 sponsored by our affiliate website, Rajah.com, wrestling Luchasaurus in May and The Human Tornado in June.

While it’s not clear if AEW’s interest prompted IMPACT to sign him to a deal, the timing is definitely peculiar.
