Wipeout Hosted By John Cena On TBS

Contestant Dies After Competing On TBS Reboot Of “Wipeout” Hosted By WWE Legend John Cena

A “Wipeout” contestant has died after competing on the TBS rebooted show.

After a long run on ABC (from 2008-2014), the “Wipeout” reboot, hosted by John Cena, is currently in production. TMZ noted that the male contestant needed medical attention after completing the course. The contestant was said to be experiencing chest pains and was treated on-site by medics who had already started using a defibrillator until paramedics arrived.

TMZ sources say the contestant suffered cardiac arrest just before noon on Wednesday after being taken to the hospital, where he later passed away.

“We are devastated to have learned of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family,” TBS said via a statement.

It’s unclear how this will affect future episodes of the show.

We’re told there are precautions and safeguards in place on set. For example, every ‘Wipeout’ contestant undergoes medical exams before participating. There are also 2 paramedics on-site, plus a safety producer and paramedic coordinator.

The production company, Endemol Shine North America stated, “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
