Details on Late Changes to This Week’s AEW Dynamite; Note on Canceled Gangrel Appearance

— In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer had some notes on last minute changes to AEW Dynamite that took place on Wednesday:

  • An unannounced match was either pulled or changed from the lineup after two competitors in that bout tested positive for COVID. The wrestlers were fully vaccinated and weren’t showing any symptoms but the positive test obviously meant they couldn’t move forward with it. Fortunately, the match was never publicly announced and so nobody knew any different.
  • Another late change was when Matt Lee’s wife gave birth a few days before Dynamite and so Tony Khan gave Lee the whole week off. The plan was for 2.0 to do some sort of angle on the show.
  • David Heath (Gangrel) recently appeared on a podcast and noted that he was being brought into AEW to participate in some sort of angle, likely having to do with Christian and Kenny Omega, but it was canceled at the last minute. He stated that AEW officials told him that the cancelation was a result of WWE and Edge doing something similar with the bloodbath idea that they ran on Smackdown the week prior. AEW officials confirmed Gangrel’s story, but pointed out that he was still paid him for it – something the former wrestler failed to mention.
