Drew McIntyre Talks To Planeta Wrestling

Drew McIntyre’s WWE Contract is Expiring Soon; Two Sides Reportedly Far Apart in Negotiations

— With WrestleMania 39 taking place this weekend, one piece of news that has emerged not related to the event is that the contract of former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is coming to an end and that not only have the two sides not come to an agreement yet on an extension or a new deal, but that they aren’t even really close. PWInsider.com reported that McIntyre’s deal is set to expire sometime this year, but that it is not imminent which would suggest that it will probably be in the second half of the 2023, if not at the end of the year.

— McIntyre returned to WWE in 2015 in NXT after reinventing himself into a major star on the indies following an initial WWE release where he fell short of expectations. He then progressed through the ranks and ended up as one of WWE’s top stars as the company made its way through the pandemic culminating with a WrestleMania 36 win over Brock Lesnar where he became champion.

— The report speculated that if WWE isn’t able to lock down McIntyre, this weekend’s WrestleMania match could be his last one as it’s likely that every major promotion including AEW and NJPW would be interested in signing him should he hit free agency.
