— WWE superstar Edge is scheduled to wrestle tomorrow on Friday Night Smackdown in what is effectively his hometown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As it turns out, it could be the last match of his career. Speaking to ET Canada, Edge revealed that his WWE contract expires after Friday’s show, where he is scheduled to compete against Sheamus and that he isn’t sure if he will continue his in-ring career beyond that.
“Here’s what I can honestly say and this isn’t the answer that everybody is going to want: I truly don’t know. I really, really with 100% truth say I don’t know. And that’s strange for me but I don’t. I really, really don’t. I’ve put some thought into it, but not a lot. This is the last match on my current contract. So, I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. I probably won’t know until I get to the locker room that night and just decompress, let all the anxiety and tension I never used to have before, I have now. And that’s strange for me and that makes it that much harder for me. I’m going to be 50 in October. It’s not easy anymore. Before, what I used to just take for granted to be able to do, now there’s a process and there’s a fallout, and there’s a lot. It’s the dream gig but it’s getting really hard.”
— Last year at about this time, Edge addressed the Toronto crowd in an off-camera interview where he strongly teased that he would be saying goodbye one year from now as WWE usually tours the city in August. Edge’s trainer, Ron Hutchinson, also tweeted that Edge “is pretty certain” he’ll be having his last match on Friday.
