Former WWE Superstar Salvatore Bellomo Dies At Age 67

On Saturday, the pro wrestling world lost another one of its’ veteran brothers.

Salvatore Bellomo, a former WWE and ECW veteran who had a career in the pro wrestling business that spanned over three decades, passed away after losing a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Bellomo is best known for his multi-year run (1983-1987) in WWE, where he primarily worked as a “jobber” / enhancement talent. He is also recognized for his short run in the original ECW — Eastern Championship Wrestling — where he lost to WWE Hall Of Famer “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka in the first-ever ECW World Championship match in 1993.

Bellomo appeared in memorable matches in the early Vince McMahon Jr.-led days of WWE in the mid 1980s, such as his loss to WWE Hall Of Famer Bobby “The Brain” Heenan in a singles match at the legendary Madison Square Garden arena in New York, and his matches against WWE Hall Of Famer and former WWE World Champion Bob Backlund at the Philadelphia Spectrum in Philadelphia in 1984.

Additionally, Bellomo is known for appearing on WWE Hall Of Famers Jake “The Snake” Roberts and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s WWE talk-show segments — The Snake Pit and Piper’s Pit — in the mid-1980s.

Salvatore Bellomo was born on June 18, 1951 in Hornu, Belgium, and passed away this past Saturday, February 9, 2019, at age 67.
