On the post-Fastlane episode of SmackDown Live on Tuesday night, Vince McMahon teased giving Kofi Kingston a “WrestleMania opportunity.” When all was said-and-done, it was announced that the opportunity would take place on next week’s SmackDown Live in the form of another Gauntlet Match.
After gaining a considerable amount of momentum following his performance in the Gauntlet Match leading up to the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, The New Day veteran has been in the WWE Championship picture, although never getting the big one-on-one PPV shot that he deserves.
During the closing segment of Tuesday night’s show at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, Kingston confronted McMahon and asked him what he has to do to earn a championship match. It was then that the announcement was made that Kingston would be competing in a Gauntlet Match on next week’s show against Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, Cesaro, Sheamus and Rowan. With a victory, he will move on to challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35.
