IMPACT ON AXS TV RESULTS (9/23/2021)

This week’s show kicks off with a Victory Road recap and then the usual signature trademark opening video that starts the show each and every Thursday night.

Josh Alexander Relinquishes X-Title, Will Challenge Christian Cage At Bound For Glory

From there, we shoot inside Skyway Studios in Nashville, TN. where Scott D’Amore is standing in the ring to immediately kick things off. D’Amore points out that Victory Road ended with Josh Alexander exercising Option C.

The fans chant Option C and then D’Amore makes it official — Christian Cage vs. Josh Alexander for the IMPACT Championship at the upcoming Bound For Glory 2021 pay-per-view.

Alexander’s theme hits and out comes the X-Division Champion himself as the fans chant “Walking Weapon.” His music fades down and D’Amore points out that this is only official when Alexander relinquishes his X-Division Championship.

D’Amore announces that next week a tournament will begin to crown the new X-Division Champion, with the tourney to determine the new champ finishing up at the Bound For Glory 2021 show.

“The Walking Weapon” says he understands the weight of his decision and he points out he’s not the type to live with regret. He says after being laid up for six months with surgery he had plenty of time to think. He says he thinks he could be the face of IMPACT Wrestling. He says to do that he needs the IMPACT Championship.

With that said, the reigning IMPACT Champion Christian Cage’s theme music hits and the wrestling legend emerges with the title and makes his way down to the ring. Cage says he heard him in the back talking about almost losing his career. He says he actually did lose his and it took years to get it back. He says he finally did and he’s now the IMPACT Champion and he refuses to lay down for him or anybody else.

Cage points out that Alexander risks coming up empty-handed in this whole thing. He says he’s the face of the X-Division but he’s got a spoiler alert — after Bound For Glory, he still won’t be the face of IMPACT Wrestling. Alexander simply responds, “Christian — thank you for making this decision that much easier.”

Before anything else happens, Ace Austin’s theme hits and out comes the man who came up short in his bid to dethrone Christian Cage for the IMPACT Championship at Victory Road 2021 this past Sunday night, along with Madman Fulton by his side. He says Alexander was on his coattails when he was X-Division Champion and now he’s doing it again that he’s going after the IMPACT Championship. He tells Alexander to take Cage’s advice.

Alexander makes one remark about taking the X-Division Championship from Austin and this leads to a brawl where Austin and Alexander brawl and Madman Fulton gets involved. Cage ends up eating a big shot with a kendo stick and then Austin and Fulton head to the back as Alexander checks on Christian in the ring.

Rich Swann & Willie Mack With Announcements

We shoot backstage to Gia Miller, who is standing by with Rich Swann and Willie Mack. She mentions them coming up short in their attempt to capture the IMPACT Tag-Team Championships against The Good Brothers at Victory Road 2021 this past weekend.

Swann and Mack then bring up that they’ve got an announcement of their own. He talks about the X-Division Championship now being vacant with a tournament announced to determine the new champ. Mack enters himself into the tourney. Swann then declares himself for the Bound For Glory Call Your Shot gauntlet match.

As they wrap up, up walks Brian Myers with Sam Beale and their wannabes. Myers announces he too will be in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet at Bound For Glory. Swann says if Myers is so confident he should pick one of his flunkies to face he and Mack tonight. Swann and Mack walk off. Myers says he’s got to think about who is going to be his partner for the match. We head to a commercial break after this.

Scott D’Amore Makes Big Match For Tonight

We return backstage after the break and a doctor is checking Christian Cage’s eye following the kendo stick shot from Madman Fulton and Ace Austin. In walks Josh Alexander and he says he’s sick of this. Scott D’Amore tells Cage to let the doctor look at him and says if Alexander wants to end this, he’ll have his chance one-on-one against Ace Austin later tonight.

Hikuleo vs. David Finlay

We head back inside the IMPACT Zone and Hikuleo’s theme hits. The big man from The Bullet Club makes his way down to the ring accompanied by Chris Bey for our opening match of the evening.

As Hikuleo settles into the ring, we see highlights from Victory Road of these two beating FinJuice. We return live and Hikuleo’s theme wraps up.

The familiar sounds of FinJuice’s theme plays and out comes David Finlay accompanied by Juice Robinson. Finlay goes one-on-one with Hikuleo in our first match of the evening here on the post-Victory Road edition of IMPACT On AXS TV.

Now the bell sounds and this one is off-and-running. Straight out of the gate, the much larger and stronger Hikuleo dominates the offense as the commentators sing his praises, as well as those of his father, Haku (aka Meng). As he continues to work Finlay over, we head to a mid-match commercial break.

We’re back from the break and we see Hikuleo is still dominating the action, however the fans are starting to rally behind Finlay, who is showing signs of life for the first time since the beginning of the bout.

Finlay starts using his speed, quickness and veteran experience to regain competitive form in this one, and then eventually pull ahead into the offensive lead for the only time in the match so far. Finlay gets a sleeper on Hikuleo that he refuses to let go. Eventually Hikuleo slams his way out of it and then turns Finlay inside-out with a big clothesline for a near fall.

After the big clothesline fails to finish Finlay off, Hikuleo calls for the chokeslam. He goes for it but Finlay counters once in mid-air. Chris Bey pops up on the ring apron but is brought off the hard way by Juice Robinson. Finlay ends up tripping Hikuleo up and rolling him up for the surprise upset pin fall victory.

Winner: Finlay

After The Match: Fantasmo & The Bullet Club Attack

As soon as the bell sounds, Hikuleo attacks Finlay. He beats him down until Juice Robinson hits the ring, but then Chris Bey is in right after him. Regardless, FinJuice starts getting the better of things. They go for the Doomsday Device until Fantasmo from The Bullet Club hits the ring. The numbers game is too much for FinJuice and The Bullet Club ends up brutally beating Finlay and Robinson down.

Violent By Design Wants Answer From Rhino Next Week

A vignette airs with the latest in the ongoing rift between Violent By Design and Rhino. Eric Young explains why VBD did what they did to Rhino recently. He says violence is the only thing the sickness understands. He tells Rhino he knows he can learn and repent, apologize and move forward from all of this. He says he knows Rhino can be the War Machine. He says when you join something like VBD, you’re in forever.

He tells Rhino he’s looking at him and asking him to decide to do the right thing. He tells him to think about his actions and how he compromised VBD and made them do that to him. He demands an answer from Rhino on next week’s show.

Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green With A Message For Rohit Raju

Now we shoot to Gia Miller, who is standing by with Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green. She brings up Cardona’s match at Victory Road and then Chelsea’s match against Rohit tonight. Cardona talks about beating Rohit at Victory Road and then taking out Shera afterwards. He tells Scott D’Amore he’s a man of his word and he’s done. Chelsea says she’s not. She says she’s gonna get her retribution right now. We head to a commercial break.

Rohit Raju vs. Chelsea Green

We return from the break to a quick Su Yung promo segment that is typical insanity, and then we shoot back inside the IMPACT Zone where Rohit Raju’s theme music hits.

Raju heads down to the ring for the advertised intergender match for tonight’s show. He settles into the squared circle and then his music dies down.

The familiar sounds of Chelsea Green’s theme hits and out she comes accompanied by Matt Cardona to a nice pop from the fans inside Skyway Studios.

Now the bell sounds and we’re off-and-running with this one. Green surprisingly does well early on, taking it to Raju as the fans cheer her on and chant “Let’s go Chelsea!” Eventually, however, Raju takes over and starts dominating the offense, taunting her and Cardona at ringside while the fans loudly boo.

Green shifts the momentum in her favor after hitting back-to-back Lou Thesz Presses like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in his prime. She gets a big snap-german suplex into a near fall. She gets in some more offense until Raj Singh hits the scene to provide a distraction, allowing Raju to pick up the victory after he lays out Cardona at ringside.

Winner: Rohit Raju

Eddie Edwards & Sami Callihan Want W. Morrissey & Moose

Speaking of man-on-woman violence, we see highlights of Alisha Edwards being attacked by W. Morrissey and Moose at Victory Road 2021 this past weekend.

From there, we shoot to Eddie Edwards backstage talking about the issue. He says he already showed Moose what happened when you touch his wife. He says now it’s time to show Morrissey.

As he continues to talk in walks Sami Callihan. Edwards tells him now is not the time. Callihan brings up being left to take a beating and says now it’s time for them both to go get vengeance. They tell the camera man to follow them as they walk off and we head to another commercial break.

Eddie Edwards & Sami Callihan Attack Moose, Search For W. Morrissey Continues

When we return from the break we see Eddie Edwards walking into a room and approaching Moose. He gets in his face and Moose grabs Edwards by the throat. Sami Callihan shows up and blasts Moose in the gut and then Edwards beats him down. They ask him where W. Morrissey is. They tell the camera man to follow them again and continue their search for him.

Rich Swann & Willie Mack vs. Brian Myers & VSK

Now we shoot inside the IMPACT Zone again where the familiar sounds of the entrance theme music of Rich Swann and Willie Mack plays and the duo head down to the ring.

They settle into the ring for our next bout of the evening, which will be the tag-team match set up earlier this evening. Their music cuts off.

Brian Myers’ theme hits and out he comes with Sam Beale and the members of his Learning Tree. He gets on the mic and says none of these guys are ready but he does have a partner who is.

Out comes VSK. He and Myers head to the ring and our match is now set. Striker and Brown sing the praises of VSK and then the bell sounds to get this one off-and-running.

Swann and VSK kick things off for their respective teams. VSK shows good skills early on, avoiding the attack from Swann and blasting him with a nice dropkick that impresses the commentators. He gloats afterwards.

Now we see Swann fight back into the lead and he connects with a big dropkick of his own. He tags Mack in. Mack beats down VSK some more and now Myers tags in. Mack takes it to Myers as well, hitting a big slam and then a flying shoulder block for a near fall.

VSK tags back in and we see a nice sliding power bomb as they have Mack down and isolated on their corner of the ring, cutting the ring in half and keeping Mack from making it to his corner for the badly needed tag to Swann. Myers tags back in and picks up where VSK left off, taking it to Mack.

Finally, we see Swann and VSK both tag in. It is Swann, however, who takes the hot tag and fires up, connecting with all kinds of fast-paced high-impact offense. Mack clotheslines Myers out to the floor and goes out with him. VSK hits a thumb to the eye of Swann to shift the momentum back in his teams favor.

We see VSK head to the top-rope but he comes flying off right into a big super kick from Swann. Swann heads to the ring apron and hits the Learning Tree guys with kicks as well. Mack knocks Myers off the apron and then Swann leaps off the ropes onto VSK for the pin falll victory. Beale tried to get involved in the finish but accidentally helped Swann.

Winners: Rich Swann & Willie Mack

We shoot to a Swinger’s Palace where the guys talk about not wanting to go to Vegas. They write a “John Deere” letter to Scott D’Amore in an attempt to get out of the move to Vegas. He cordially invites him to Swinger’s Palace on next week’s show. After this, we see Mickie James heading to the ring as we head to another commercial break.

The Good Brothers On Vacation

When we return from the break, we shoot to a black-and-white promo segment from The Good Brothers. Gallows and Anderson talk about being on vacation and claim it’s deserved because of all of their recent wins, which they list off. They boast some more, talk about the Magic Killer finisher and the segment ends. A video highlight package airs to show some of the carnage caused by their two-person finishing move off the same name.

Mickie James Challenges Deonna Purrazzo For Bound For Glory Knockouts Title Match

“Hardcore Country” plays as we return inside the IMPACT Zone and Mickie James makes her way down to the ring. She talks about being honored to be in the ring at NWA 73 and brings up Slammiversary. She then mentions Deonna Purrazzo attacking her and then talks about giving her a receipt in the IMPACT Zone.

James calls out Purrazzo. Purrazzo makes her way down to the ring and asks how dare Mickie even say her name after what she did the last time they saw each other.

Mickie points out that Purrazzo is not talking to the NWA executive right now, she’s talking to a fellow fighter. She mentions Bound For Glory coming up soon. She challenges Purrazzo to a match for the Knockouts Championship at Bound For Glory.

Eventually Purrazzo gets around to saying she doesn’t think James has earned a shot, noting she wasn’t a fan of hers and isn’t going to help make her relevant again. Scott D’Amore comes out and says she gets any match she wants and makes Purrazzo vs. James official for the Knockout title at Bound For Glory.

Eddie Edwards & Sami Callihan Find W. Morrissey, Scott D’Amore Intervenes

We follow Eddie Edwards and Sami Callihan backstage some more as they finally find and approach W. Morrissey. Before anything can happen, a ton of officials hit the scene to keep them apart and then Scott D’Amore shows up and makes an anything goes street fight between Edwards and Callihan and Morrissey and Moose for next week’s show. Morrissey asks Edwards how his wife is doing. Edwards says he’s a dead man. We head to a commercial break.

Gail Kim Makes Knockouts Knockdown Announcement & More

Four Knockouts versus four of the best outside of the division in a tournament at the Knockouts Knockdown special is announced by Gail Kim when we return from the break. Ace Austin vs. Josh Alexander

He settles into the ring and his music fades down. Now we hear the theme for former X-Division Champion Josh Alexander. “The Walking Weapon” heads down to the ring as we head to a pre-match commercial break.

When we return from the break, we see the two in the ring and the bell sounds to get our main event of the evening here on the post-Victory Road edition of IMPACT On AXS TV underway.

Early on we see some back-and-forth action and then “The Walking Weapon” starts to pull into the offensive lead. We see Austin fighting on the ring apron while Alexander is on the floor and then the former X-Division Champion sweeps Austin and locks in him his Ankle Lock submission. Austin escapes.

Now we see Austin take over and shift the offensive momentum into his favor as we head to a mid-match commercial break as the action continues in the ring.

We’re back from the break and we see these two still going at it, with Austin still very much in control of things. He goes for the C4 Spike but Austin avoids it. The action spills to the floor where Alexander is knocked onto Madman Fulton, taking him out. Back in the ring, Alexander finally does hit the C4 Spike and scores the pin fall victory.

Winner: Josh Alexander

After The Match: Christopher Daniels Returns

As soon as the match wraps up, we see Madman Fulton and Ace Austin attack Josh Alexander in a post-match beatdown. They continue to attack him until finally Christian Cage runs down to the ring and breaks things up. He gets Fulton and Austin out of the ring and then turns to see Alexander staring at him.

They go face-to-face but while they do, Austin jumps off the top-rope and attacks them. Madman Fulton hits the ring again and helps with the attack.

This continues until we hear music and see the shocking surprise return of Christopher Daniels. He hits the ring and beats down Austin and Fulton, running them out of there. The fans roar with “Fallen Angel” chants. The show goes off the air with Daniels playing to the crowd as the commentators go nuts. Thanks for joining us!
