Corey Graves Appears On The Prime Time With Sean Mooney Podcast (August 2019)

Latest On WWE-Corey Graves Situation; Commentator Unhappy, Speculation On If It’s A Work, more

— WWE commentator Corey Graves caused some waves over the past 24 hours, first by his post on X where he very clearly expressed his unhappiness at being bumped off of both Raw and Smackdown and replaced by his more “famous” colleagues. Graves then followed that up with another post that encouraged fans to tune in tonight on NXT where he would have more to say which immediately then turned speculation to whether this was some sort of a work. However, earlier today a report emerged that Graves was taken off of tonight’s NXT broadcast and instead was on his way back home.

— Fightfulselect.com is corroborating the initial report from pwinsider.com that indicated that Graves has been unhappy about WWE reshuffling the commentary assignments and that ultimately boiled over last night. The report cautions that it is not clear whether this is a work or a shoot but that people close to Graves have noted that his discontent is real and legitimate. Graves lives in Pittsburgh and so was presumably on his way there; as of earlier this afternoon, he was not at NXT rehearsals and the company had only placed two seats at the booth, further suggesting that Graves will not be on the show.

— One source within WWE pointed to the fact that throughout the last many years, Graves and Michael Cole have essentially been the only constants on an otherwise constantly changing commentating team. The source added that it would be a shocker if Graves wasn’t back calling the shots on Raw or Smackdown by the spring and pointed out that he has generated significant praise backstage within the company for always being so flexible with his role and schedule.

— Within NXT, wrestlers and production sources were surprised to see him at the booth last week calling New Year’s Evil as nobody within the brand had been told that he was joining the commentary team. That would perhaps imply that the decision from WWE to send him to NXT was made late and perhaps could have even blindsided him. Graves re-signed with WWE about a year ago and at last word, still had multiple years left on his deal.
