Mercedes Mone’s debut for AEW just over a week ago stirred up some controversy due to remarks she made prior to her appearance. In a discussion on the “Kick Rocks” podcast shortly before her debut, Mone hinted at a potential return to WWE, expressing a belief in having “unfinished business” there, although she never explicitly confirmed her AEW signing.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Mone’s comments didn’t sit well with many within AEW. The report highlighted that most AEW signings typically fall into one of two groups: those genuinely committed to the promotion and seeing it as their preferred destination, and others who view it as a means to earn money before eventually returning to WWE. Mone’s negotiations with both promotions, prior to signing with AEW, heightened skepticism among some in AEW, leading them to question her true intentions. They interpreted her remarks as signaling a leaning toward the latter category, causing further doubt among those already skeptical of her intentions.
