More On Possibility Of WWE Hall Of Famer Leaving WWE And Joining AEW

— Yesterday, it was reported by pwinsider.com that WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix was finished with the company, as her contract expired and there didn’t seem to be any interest from either side to sign a new deal. Since then, other sources have corroborated the report.

— While Phoenix has wrestled just a handful of times over the last 2-3 years in tag team matches with husband Adam Copeland, fightfulselect.com reports that she remains in “amazing condition” and could conceivably compete again if she so chooses to do so. The possibility of the 43-year old appearing for AEW has been mentioned backstage but it’s not clear if the two sides have had any conversation. If Phoenix were to sign with AEW where her husband currently works, she wouldn’t be able to use the full name “Beth Phoenix” due to trademark issues but since Beth is her real first name, a name such as Beth Copeland would be viable.

— AEW sources have noted that if Beth is brought into the company, it would almost definitely be timed and coordinated with Adam Copeland’s return from injury. Nonetheless, she has been backstage at multiple AEW shows over the past nine months. There is also interest from independent promotions who have wondered if she would accept bookings now that she is a free agent. Adam spoke of the possibility of working with Beth in AEW earlier year:

“I mean, any time I get to be close to Beth obviously I’m gonna be super excited about that. I don’t know about the possibilities of that in the foreseeable future, but I love being around her obviously. And we’ve had a blast when we did get to work together. But where she will be instrumental without everyone knowing it is she’s my sounding board. So if you’ve seen me do something, or you see something that you think worked, it was always bounced off Beth and then she always gives me better ideas back. It’s kind of amazing to be married to a Hall of Famer, it’s pretty cool… who can suplex you.”
