– At the recent NJPW Sakura Genesis event, wrestler Katsuyori Shibata suffered a nasty head injury and was rushed to a local hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

— The official word on the injury is a subdural hematoma and it happened when Shibata delivered a skull-on-skull headbutt to Kazuchika Okada during their match. The headbutt was reported to have made a sick sound and caused Shibata to bust open his own head.

— Most of the other talent were unsure whether it was a legit injury or a work as cameras were still rolling after Shibata collapsed backstage, but after he was taken to hospital, word was received that the surgery was successful and he is fully conscious and able to communicate.

— It goes without saying that Shibata has been pulled off the upcoming NJPW tour and no return date for him has been announced.
