The card for the upcoming NXT TakeOver 31 special continued to take shape on Wednesday night.
During the special “NXT TakeOff To TakeOver” edition of the weekly NXT On USA show, two new championship bouts were made official for the upcoming NXT TakeOver live event scheduled to stream via the WWE Network on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
Candice LeRae won the NXT Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender Battle Royal on this week’s WWE NXT show, last eliminating Shotzi Blackheart to win the match and earn the next shot at reigning champion “The Genius of the Sky” Io Shirai.
Also added to NXT TakeOver 31 on this week’s black-and-gold brand show is the main event for the 31st event in NXT TakeOver chronology, as Kyle O’Reilly won the first-ever NXT Gauntlet Eliminator to earn the shot at current title-holder Finn Balor.
The LeRae-Shirai and O’Reilly-Balor bouts join the previously announced North American Championship contest for NXT TakeOver 31, as Damian Priest will be defending his title against Johnny Gargano in one-on-one action.
