Hello again everyone, and welcome back to the NXT UK Recap courtesy of Andrew Hatcher and Rajah.com.
This weeks episode of NXT UK starts off with Andy Shepherd welcoming us to the “special edition” of the show. Andy says that tonight’s show will “showcase the very best” of the brand, before sending us back to February 13, 2020.
NXT UK SPECIAL EDITION RESULTS (1/1/2021)
Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs Gallus
In the main event of the February 13th edition of NXT UK, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan took on NXT UK Tag Team Champions Gallus(Wolfgang and Mark Coffey). Lorcan and Burch controlled most of the early portion of the match, until the use of a few cheap tactics allowed the heel team to take over. Lorcan tagged in, and started going wild with uppercuts on both members of Gallus, who attempted more cheap tactics, but Coffey and Wolfgang weathered the storm. Gallus maintained the momentum for a bit, until Lorcan began to fire up again, delivering a few chops to the chest of Wolfgang. This allowed some separation, and Lorcan tagged in Burch, who was on fire! All four guys got into the ring, hitting move after move, until Burch and Coffey were left in the ring. The heel team attempted a double team maneuver, but it failed, allowing Burch and Lorcan to lock in dueling submission moves on each member of Gallus. Coffey and Wolfgang fought out of the holds, cleared the ring of Lorcan, and hit a big double team maneuver, allowing Wolfgang to pin Burch for the 1-2-3.
After the match, the holder of The Heritage Cup A-Kid, as well as Amir Jordan, Aleah James, Dave Mastiff, Mark Andrews, and NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray all wish us a Happy New Year. The show then heads to an ad break.
Back from the break, Ashton Smith, Amale, Gallus, Isla Dawn, Wild Boar, and Noam Dar join in on the New Years pleasantries. We’re then taken to what looks like Sam Gradwells house, and he’s taking a trip down 2020’s memory lane. He goes over the biggest highlights from each month, and tells us in so many words that in 2021 he plans on beating people up. He then wishes us “all the best”. Once Gradwell finishes talking, we’re immediately taken to “casa pretty deadly”. Pretty Deadly try a few beverages, and give their opinions of each. One of them tries a drink called Gallus, and he doesn’t like it. He is then given another drink, which he likes, and says that one “must be called pretty deadly”. Right. The show goes right back into some New Years wishes, where we’re joined by Jinny, who says we “will all fail” our New Years resolutions. Ilja Dragunov, Kenny Williams, Primate, Dani Luna, Joseph Conners, NXT UK Referee Chris Sharpe, Jack Starz, and Nina Samuels, who tells us 2021 is “the Year of the Nina Samuels Show”, all pitch in a few kind words. Once they are finished, an announcement is made for next weeks show, where Noam Dar will host “The Supernova Sessions”, and his guest will be NXT’s newest signee, Ben Carter. Before the show goes to another ad break, Andy tells us we will take a look back at a “classic match” between Jordan Devlin and Tyler Bate in Blackpool.
Once the show returns from an ad break, Saxon Huxley, Piper Niven, Levi Muir, Oliver Carter, Xia Brookside, Rampage Brown and Tyson T-Bone, wish us all a Happy New Year. Eddie Dennis finishes off the rapid fire messages, telling us he hopes everyone’s new year is “as bad as 2020… because that’s all we deserve”. Andy then reminds us about a huge upcoming match between NXT UK Champion WALTER and A-Kid, and that match happens in 2 weeks. I can’t wait! We’re also told that on next weeks show, Piper Niven and Jinny will square off in a #1 contenders Falls Count Anywhere match, for a chance to face Kay Lee Ray for the NXT UK Women’s Championship.
Tyler Bate vs Jordan Devlin
We’re then taken back to NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool II, and it’s time to watch the match between Bate and Devlin. They start the match off exchanging a few standing holds, until Bate begins to control the match. Bate sends Devlin to the outside of the ring, and attempts a diving maneuver, but Devlin cuts him off. Devlin begins to work over Bate, and makes a few pin attempts on Bate. Devlin continues the momentum, keeping Bate grounded, and working over the crowd. Bate makes his way back to his feet, and sends Devlin to the outside again, before jumping over the top rope onto Devlin. Bate sends Devlin back into the ring, and goes to the top rope, but Devlin catches him with a pair of knees to the gut on the way down. Devlin remains in control of Bate, locking in a few submission moves. Bate eventually surprises Devlin with a pin attempt, and then both guys run the ropes, but jump into each other ribs first. Both guys went down, and that allows Bate to catch a breather. Bate begins to fire up, but both guys are showing signs of wearing down. Bate takes Devlin for a ride with an airplane spin, and follows up with a massive brain buster, and gains a close near fall. Bate attempts the Tyler Driver ‘97, but Devlin reverses, and makes a few different pin attempts. Devlin starts to make a comeback, and both guys go to the outside. They both barely make it back into the ring, avoiding a double count out, and start to exchange blows. A hockey fight breaks out, until Bate catches Devlin with a kick. The fast paced action continues, and both guys start to deliver their best shots, and both guys go down. The crowd is fired up now!! Devlin Goes to the top rope, but Bate cuts him off. Devlin reverses, Bates attempt, and flings both superstars off of the top rope with an avalanche Spanish Fly. Devlin follows up with the Devlin Side, a pins Bate for the 1-2-NO!! Everyone in the building is on their feet, chanting “fight forever” and “this is awesome”. Devlin sets up for the Tyler Driver, but Bate escapes, and delivers a thunderous head butt. Both men are completely gassed, but Bate hits a DDT, followed by the Tyler Driver ‘97 for the 1-2-NO!! Holy cow!! Bate immediately goes to the top rope, and hits a twisting corkscrew splash for the 1-2-3, and I’m out of breath just from watching. What a match!
That’s all for this weeks show. If you’re not doing anything today, go watch the match between Bate and Devlin. Google it, YouTube it, look it up on the WWE Network, whatever you have to do to watch that incredible match! I want to wish you all one last Happy New Year, and I’ll see you next week.
