WWE Raw Penta

Original Plans For Penta’s WWE Debut Match; Rumors Of Backstage Heat At Raw, more

— Penta made his much rumored and long awaited debut with WWE on Monday’s Raw on Netflix in a winning effort against Chad Gable. In a move that was telegraphed months in advance, it’s not surprise that fightfulselect.com reported yesterday that the deal to have him debut in January was finalized weeks ago, probably not long after his AEW contract expired on December 1.

— WWE’s original plan was to have Penta team up with Rey Mysterio to take on The New Day so it’s unclear why creatively they went off in a totally different direction. Either way, WWE clearly made no real attempt to hide Penta’s identity as the mystery Luchador who was facing Gable and they also released his merchandise before Raw in what sources claimed was a “happy accident” though it’s unlikely that it wasn’t on purpose. Penta was backstage at Raw throughout the day, not hidden in any way while mingling with other wrestlers, and WWE had already had him participating in various photoshoots as well.

— A separate report emerged on Monday evening indicating that Penta’s segment went over on time, which fightful reported is accurate, and it apparently led to other segments being cut back on time. Despite this, there was reportedly no heat on Penta himself and as almost everyone was aware what the moment meant to him and his family and were overall happy for him. As it relates to the timing of the show, WWE made it a point to try and have a hard out and get off air at 2.5 hours in order to facilitate some talent who needed to catch late night flights out of town.
