Some controversy from the past of Excalibur is apparently what is keeping him from the commentary table at AEW Dynamite in recent weeks.
Excalibur was off the 7/29 Dynamite show with no explanation given by him or the company – either publicly or privately, however, the belief is that he asked to be off the show due to people uncovering him using the N-word in a PWG angle back in 2003.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter at F4WOnline.com, the incident was known to All Elite Wrestling and Excalibur even publicly apologized for it shortly after it happened, but he felt with people making an issue about it, he didn’t want to be on the show and draw more focus to it.
It ended up causing the opposite effect as his absence without explanation drew more attention on it and at this time, it’s not known if he will be back this week on the AEW Dynamite on TNT show on August 5th, or the upcoming August 12th show featuring Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy 2, or if he will be on the sidelines because of this for an extended period of time.
Embedded below is the most recent appearance of Excalibur on AEW programming, as the usual weekly play-by-play commentator appeared on the regular TNT broadcast of AEW Dynamite and then again with Jim Ross and Taz on the official AEW Dynamite post-show from 7/22.
We will keep you posted here at eWrestling.com as updates continue to surface regarding Excalibur and how AEW plans to handle this situation.
Just ICYMI, it looks like #racism controversy from #Excalibur‘s past, including a major “N-Word” incident, is what is keeping the #AEWDynamite play-by-play announcer from the #AEWonTNT TV show commentary (#Wrestling Update, #excalibur_army)
