— During his opening promo on yesterday’s AEW Dynamite, CM Punk calling out “Hangman” Adam Page and referring to him as a “coward” was not scripted, according to both Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer said it was “weird for everyone” as nobody, even AEW management, were aware that Punk was going to do that especially since Punk vs. Page II is not even planned for next month’s All Out PPV.
— Meltzer noted that there are real issues between Punk and Page, some of which they aired leading into their Double or Nothing match. He also speculated that perhaps Punk was bothered by something Page might have said during their promos that he felt he needed to address during his first in-ring interview since returning from injury.
— Alvarez stated that Punk’s promo had nothing to do at all with the buildup or program at All Out and wasn’t supposed to happen, with Punk essentially going into “business for himself” before getting back on track. To make matters more interesting, it remains to be seen how Page will react to being labelled a “coward” and failing to show up on Dynamite when he wasn’t even at the show, making Punk’s comments even more questionable.
